From amongst the other East Iranian languages, Pashto is the least influenced by Arabic and therefore it retains some of the oldest constructs and complex forms that are if vital importance in the study of languages and linguistics.

Pashto is the only direct descendant of the Avestan the Zoroastrian scriptural record. Pashto also has a very comprehensive and complex grammar among the Indo-Iranian languages in terms noun forms and gender and number marking and declinations.
