Windows - How to do a text translation

The Microsoft Translator app for Windows desktop is retired and is no longer available for download from the Microsoft Store. Please read the Translator blog to discover all your options for translating on your Windows device.

To translate a text please take the following steps:

  • Tap or click on Translator 
  • Tap or click on Translate at the top left of your screen
  • Tap or click on Text
  • Choose the from- and the to-language 
  • Type the text you would like to translate and the translation will appear
You can also download a document you would like to translate. Please note that you can translate a document of 10,000 character at a time. 
To download a document you would like to translate please take the following steps:

  • Tap or click on Translator
  • Tap or click on Translate at the top left of your screen
  • Tap or click on Text
  • Choose the from- and the to-language
  • Tap or click on the Open tab and select the document you would like to translate
Note: If you choose Detect as a from-language you don't need to change the from-language. Translator will remember the last languages the next time you open the app.
