How do I get my language supported?

Text Languages:

We add new languages periodically. In the process of adding a new language to the automatic translation system, the most important learning material is existing high-quality translations—the same text in two languages.

A significant amount, typically 4 to 5 million words of this type of text, is needed to build a reasonable-quality automatic translation system for a particular language pair. Find out how automatic translation works at www.microsofttranslator.com/AT

Speech Languages

Speech recognition is a totally different process than translation. It requires a whole new set of data (hundred of hours of recorded audios and their associated transcriptions) and trainings of our machine learning based engines to become available. Therefore, we cannot always deliver speech recognition as quickly as new supported languages become available for Microsoft Translator.

We continue to release improvements to the quality of our existing languages and to expand on our coverage of languages from around the world so that more and more people can talk to the Microsoft Translator in their own language.

Stay tuned on our blog (www.aka.ms/Translatorblog), Facebook page (www.facebook.com/microsofttranslator), or Twitter feed (www.twitter.com/MStranslator) for updates to our language coverage.

For the up-to-date list of supported language please go to www.microsoft.com/translator/languages.aspx

    Hi,

A while ago you have asked Microsoft to add Arabic dialects.

We are happy to announce that we have released Levantine, an Arabic dialect spoken in countries such as Lebanon, Jordan, and Syria, as its latest AI-powered speech translation language.

It will help businesses, educators, travelers, and non-profits communicate across the language barrier with Levantine speakers during meetings, presentations, and Skype calls.

Please learn more about it here:
    https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/translation/2018/06/27/levantine/

    Sincerely,
    Gwenda

Thanks for your posts and votes on the Microsoft Translator forum.

Danish is already available as an offline language.

When you download the offline packs for Microsoft Translator, you can use the text translation feature and the image translation feature for that language offline.
The speech feature and the voice-out feature will not be available offline.
You can also access Phrasebooks and pinned translations offline as well. Pinned translations will show up in your Favorites phrasebook.

    Sincerely,

    Gwenda
    Microsoft Translator

Please know that Pinyin is still there. Once you have translated into Chinese you can swipe left and you will find Pinyin.

    Hi,
Turkish is available for offline use. The downloadable language packs for the Microsoft Translator app for iOS, Android, and Fire are the world’s first Deep Neural Network-powered offline translation engine. By downloading free offline packs, you can get near online-quality translations, even when you are not connected to the Internet.
    Best regards,

  18. Bing Translator for Mandarin to Spanish needs a major overhaul.

Bing Translator for Mandarin to Spanish cannot translate full sentences at all, and occasionally fails on single words. Furthermore, it does not show any pinyin at all, and does not show any alternative translations. At least 1,500 people speak Mandarin and 650 million speak Spanish. Needs to improve.

We have several options for this:
