  1. Update the app (Translator for Windows)

The Windows app lacks many essential features and looks so ugly at the moment. Phrasebooks, one-to-one conversations, alternate translations, and definitions are missing entirely. Offline packs are very limited compared to other platforms. Please update the Windows app and give it the same beautiful design and the same features as the Microsoft Translator app on Android and iOS.

  4. Automatic Language Detection

Sometimes we are not sure that to which language the words belong to. So it would be better right after typing the words it should be detected automatically.

Hello and thanks for your message.

If you choose (Detect) as your from language then it will recognize what language the text is written in and you can translate it to your language.

Please know that (Detect) only works while online.

    Hi,

Thanks for your feedback on the quality of Catalan translations. It is much appreciated and we are working on improving the quality of our translations.

Please know that automatic Translations are usually of a lower quality than professionally translated texts, however the software learns from corrections and constantly improves its output. As automatic translations use statistical machine learning to translate from one language to another it works best when translating full sentences. It can make errors, especially when the phrase lacks context.

You can learn about how automatic translation works at https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/translator/mt.aspx

    Best regards,
    Gwenda

  7. No censor

Don't censor my words. I need to know what they mean, as well as how they're written. This defeats the purpose of the app.

    Hi,

Thanks for your feedback. I knew we turned the profanity filter off in the Android and the iOS app but wasn’t sure about the Windows Translator. I just tested away and even though I don’t always agree with the translations of swearwords I can promise you they are there.

    Kindly,
    Gwenda

  8. New app does not work for Norwegian to English...

when i click on translate it says.. "Sorry, we couldn't translate that. Please try again." Even when i have downloaded offline language pack. Old app was working great!!

    Hi,

This issue has been fixed in the latest version of the app: v5.2.4.0.

Please try to translate a phrase from Norwegian to any of our offered languages.

You can check if you have the latest version by tapping or clicking on the settings icon at the top right of your screen and then clicking on About. If you don’t have the latest version then download it from the app store.

Apologies for the inconvenience this has caused and thanks for your patience.

    Best regards,
    Gwenda
    Microsoft Translator Team

  9. please add bengali language.

One of the mostly speaking language is Bengali but unfortunately this great app doesn't support it. Even Google Translator got it. So as BENGALI language as soon as possible.

  12. Add Bangla as soon as possible.

Over 400million people use Bangla as their mother tongue. I think adding Bangla will be a great help for these people.

  13. Portuguese from Portugal is set, yet everything is still translating to Brazilian

I have made sure that the settings are set to Portuguese (Portugal) and yet every translation still only gives Brazilian Portuguese translations. For example:
What are you eating for breakfast
PT-BR: o que você está comendo no café da manhã?
PT-PT: o que você está a comer por pequeno almoço?

    Hi,

Thanks for your message on the Microsoft Translator forum.

The setting you chose only has impact on Text-to-Speech. This means that the spoken translation will have a Portuguese accent. The translation itself is not impacted by the setting.

    Sincerely,
    Gwenda
