  2. Incorrect translations of singular forms of "you" between languages other than English

In English, the pronoun "you" is used to refer to both one person and more than one person. However, many languages have different singular and plural forms of this pronoun, but Microsoft Translator always translates the singular form into the plural form when translating between languages that have different singular and plural forms. For example, "du" in German, which is the singular form, is incorrectly translated to French as "vous", which is the plural form. The correct translation is "tu", which is the singular form.

  3. Masculine/Feminine

For languages that have different verb and adjective forms (eg Hebrew, Arabic, etc.), would be helpful to ask the user whether they are male or female. Otherwise they would sound ridiculous when using the app’s translation. Otherwise, love the app!

  8. Translating whole documents breaks in mixed language documents.

For work I often receive emails containing replies that alternate between languages. When I use the outlook translate whole document feature, it breaks and stops translating after the first English (The language i'm translating to) reply leaving all further replies un-translated.

  9. Untranslated text when text is written in capital letters

When the text is written in capital letters the target is not fully translated. I have seen this for English to Italian and English to French where the translation is a mix of English and target language. E.g. EN>IT:

ANY CAUSE OF ACTION OR CLAIM YOU MAY HAVE ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THESE TERMS OR THE SITE(S) MUST BE COMMENCED WITHIN ONE (1) YEAR

QUALSIASI CAUSE DI AZIONE O CLAIM SI Può AVERE RISING OUT DI O RIMEDIO A I TERMINI O IL PIANO(S) DEVE ESSERE COMMENCED ALL.ONE (1) ANNO

  14. Some incorrect translations English-Chinese

    Dear Translator Team,

We are studying the robustness of different translators, and find the following interesting cases on Bing Microsoft Translator:

"i live on campus with a few women" -> "我住在校园里的几个女人"
"He is a super model from Guizhou" -> "他是贵州人的超级模特"
"here is a man with one eye" -> "这里有一个人与一只眼睛"
"here is a woman with one eye" -> "这里有一个女人用一只眼睛"
"here is a dog with one eye" -> "这里有一只养鸟眼的狗"

Would you consider them caused by some "bugs" of the translation system? Are these cases helpful for you to further improve the translator?

Thanks for your time! I am looking forward to your…

  18. let user select gender and status of speaker/listener

In some languages (e.g., Hebrew, Arabic,) it makes a difference if the speaker or person being spoken to is male or female. MS translator currently assumes that both are male, creating wrong translations if either of the participants in the conversation are female. In other languages (e.g., German, Russian, Japanese) inappropriate translations will occur if the status of the participants is disregarded. These problems could be solved if the user could optionally select the gender and status of the participants in the conversation.
